❷ About

I am a composer, pianist, sound designer, and producer living in Leipzig. The driving force behind my artistic practice is a passion for collaboration and the dissolution of genre and disciplinary boundaries. My work, influenced by contemporary pop, electro-acoustic, improvised, and new music, incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as spatial audio, artificial intelligence, and custom-built virtual instruments.

My own projects include my solo endeavors, the twelve-piece Philipp Rumsch Ensemble, and the avant-pop project Wylid node. I compose concert music for ensembles, as well as for stage works of various kinds, including theater, dance, performance, and installation pieces. My studio practice encompasses producing, mixing, and mastering recordings ranging from jazz to metal, pop, and contemporary classical music. My second ensemble album, µ: of anxiety x discernment, released in 2020, gained international attention and was enthusiastically received by NDR, BBC, and RBB, among others.

Commissions have brought me to diverse institutions and venues, ranging from high-culture locations like the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, Deutsches Theater Berlin, and the German National Library to renowned techno clubs like Institut für Zukunft and Mjut. In 2020, I went to Iceland for an internship at the renowned Greenhouse Studios. I then worked as an assistant for Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Sigur Rós, Hildur Guðnadóttir). From 2021 to 2023, I taught classical ear training at the University of Music and Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig. Since 2023, I have been running the production platform Nynode Intermedia through which I also release my music.

After a year as a junior student, I studied jazz piano at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig with Richie Beirach and Michael Wollny. From 2016 to 2017, I was a student at the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. I successfully participated in the Jugend Jazzt competition at regional, state, and federal levels, winning the studio prize from Deutschlandfunk with Moment’s Concept at the latter. In 2018, I received the Leipzig Young Jazz Prize from the Marion Ermer Foundation, and in 2021, I was awarded a prize in the Saxon Pop Music Competition. I have received work and residency grants from prestigious organizations including the Federal Cultural Foundation of Germany, Goethe-Institut, Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, City of Leipzig, Musikfonds, and the German Orchestra Foundation.
